Product Description
Is your lead-acid battery making you work for every start? Whether it's a slow crank on a cold morning or a completely dead cell you discovered after a winter in the garage, the Shorai LFM19A4-BS12 is built to do better. This 285 CCA lithium-iron phosphate battery weighs just 2.31 lbs — and it's ready to fire when you are.
Sport bike and performance motorcycle riders have made this one of Shorai's most popular models. It's a common upgrade on the Honda CBR1000RR, Yamaha YZF-R6, and Aprilia RSV4, where trimming weight from the battery bay translates directly into sharper handling and feel. It's also a go-to for BMW S1000RR owners looking for a factory-quality lithium upgrade that installs without any modifications.
Why Your Lead-Acid Battery Keeps Letting You Down
Traditional lead-acid batteries lose capacity every time they sulfate — and sulfation starts the moment the battery isn't fully charged. Park your bike for a few weeks, and you're already working against it. LiFePO4 chemistry doesn't sulfate, which is why Shorai backs this battery with a 5-year pro-rated warranty. It's built to outlast what you're replacing by a wide margin.
The built-in Sentry BMS takes that protection further. It monitors the battery's voltage and cuts the connection before over-discharge can do permanent damage. That means a long off-season in the garage is far less likely to kill your battery before spring even arrives.
Easy Installation, No Rewiring Required
The LFM19A4-BS12 directly replaces batteries in the YTX12-BS, YTX9-BS, YTZ10S, YTZ12S, and YTZ14S group. Your existing charging system needs no modifications. Included foam shims fill any extra space in the battery box for a firm, secure fit. Most standard lead-acid chargers and tenders are compatible — just confirm that any automatic desulfation mode can be turned off before connecting.
Down to about 20°F, most riders report starting on the first crank. Below 40°F, letting your headlight or accessories run for about 30 seconds before cranking helps warm the battery and improves first-start performance.
The Shorai LFM19A4-BS12 is in stock and ships free to the contiguous 48 states. Order today and get it on your bike before the weekend.
What's the difference between the "equivalent" and "Actual" amp hour capacity?
The manufacturer includes the "equivalent" (PbEq, "lead equivalent") rating to show a more apples-to-apples comparison between the lithium chemistry and the lead-acid battery that you're likely replacing.
The lead-acid capacity rating itself is based on a complete discharge at a low discharge rate. Under actual cranking conditions they will deliver considerably less than spec capacity. And because lead-acid batteries begin sulfating when only a small percentage of the capacity has been used, and their internal resistance rises as they are discharged, the actual capacity which can be used may be as little as 20% of the mfg. rating. Discharge in excess will not only damage the lead-acid battery, it may not allow proper starting as voltage sags.
For example, the Shorai LFM18 12V series have 6Ah cells internally. But, the cells are capable of 80% discharge without damage while still retaining more cranking power. As such, the usable capacity (or "reserve capacity") of an LFM18 12V battery is very close to 18Ah-rated lead acid batteries, while also providing superior cranking and huge weight reductions.
Cold Weather Performance Expectations
Down to about 20° Fahrenheit (-7°C) most users find that they can start normally on first crank. If your headlight comes on at key-ON, it is good for the batteries to flow some current before cranking in cold weather. The suggested headlight-on time before cranking depends on the temperature. If starting at 40°F/5°C, 30 seconds will help wake the battery and increase cranking performance. If at 0°F/-17°C, leave the lights on for 4~5 minutes before cranking. The result will be a better first crank, and longer battery life. If the engine fails to start on first crank, that first crank has warmed the battery, and the second attempt will be much stronger. Other accessories that can be turned on before cranking can also be used for this purpose, such as heated gear, radio, etc... Insuring that the battery is fully charged after storage also improves first-start performance in cold weather.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the LFM19A4-BS12 and the old LFX19A4-BS12?
A: They're functionally the same battery. In October 2024, Shorai changed the part number prefix from LFX to LFM to clearly identify batteries equipped with the built-in Battery Management System (BMS). The cells, case dimensions, voltage, and CCA ratings are all identical between the two designations. If you've been searching for the LFX19A4-BS12, the LFM19A4-BS12 is its direct replacement.
Is this battery compatible with my existing charger or battery tender?
A: Yes, in most cases. The LFM19A4-BS12 works with standard lead-acid chargers and tenders, with one important exception: if your charger has an automatic desulfation or "reconditioning" mode that cannot be turned off, do not use it with this battery. Battery Tender products have been confirmed compatible. When in doubt, check your charger's manual for a desulfation or repair mode setting.
Will the LFM19A4-BS12 fit my motorcycle?
A: This battery is cross-referenced as a direct replacement for OEM batteries in the YTX12-BS, YTX9-BS, YTZ10S, YTZ12S, and YTZ14S group, covering hundreds of motorcycles, ATVs, and other powersport vehicles. Because lithium cells are physically smaller than lead-acid, the battery ships with adhesive-backed foam shims to fill any extra space in your battery box. Use the fitment tool on this page or give us a call at 800-405-2121 if you want to confirm compatibility before ordering.
Can the LFM19A4-BS12 be mounted in any position?
A: Yes. Because this battery contains no liquid electrolyte, it can be safely mounted in any orientation without risk of spillage. This makes it particularly well-suited for custom builds, dirt bikes, and any application where the battery box orientation isn't strictly upright.

Customer Reviews
I ordered the Shorai LFM19A4-BS12 to replace the standard lead-acid battery in my 2014 VFR 800. The 19A4 was a perfect fit for the battery compartment with the same length and width, but is slightly shorter than the original. The height difference can be adjusted with foam inserts that come with the battery.
This is my third Shorai lithium battery and all three are still working. I've had the oldest for about 5 years. They will last a long time as long as you never run them completely down. If you are not going to ride for a long time, either put them on a Shorai battery tender (battery tender must becompatible with this type of battery) or take the battery out of the bike and store in a cool, dry place. Li-ion batteries can sit uncharged for extended periods as long as there is no draw on them.
Based on my previous Shorai batteries, I bought this even though it was 3x more than the cheapest lead-acid alternative. It is 1/3 the weight, has more cold cranking and has good reliability if properly cared for.
Battery Mart's prices were competitive and they had quick, free delivery.
After the infamous stator/rectifier meltdown on my 2003 Honda VFR800, I replaced the entire electrical system and sought an upgraded battery to complement the new setup. Based on multiple positive reviews, I ordered this particular battery, which arrived surprisingly quickly, and I was immediately struck by its significantly smaller size and lighter weight—about one-third less than its lead-acid predecessor. To ensure a perfect fit in the original battery compartment, it came with adhesive-backed foam pads that effectively took up the extra space, allowing it to fit "like a champ" with easy hook-up. So far, its cranking power and charging capacity have been excellent, and while it's a pricey investment, I'm hopeful its long-term performance will prove well worth it, though only time will truly tell.
Super fast shipping. Great seller highly recommended. Got my lithium battery for my motorcycle. Outstanding. Thanks guys.
