Frequently Asked Questions about 48 Volt Battery Chargers
How long will it take for my 48V battery charger to charge my battery?
There's no definitive answer to this question, but you can make a pretty good guess with some simple math.
Let's say you have a 48v battery system that has a capacity of 40 Ah. You plan on charging this with a 8 amp charger. Using the earlier equation, you would have [40 / 8 = 5 Hours]. So, five hours of charging will get your battery to about 80% of its full capacity.
To finish the charge, it will probably take an equal amount of time to get that last 20% (another five hours, in this example). Some chargers might top it off faster, but it's definitely not a certainty.
What size battery charger should I get for my battery system?
It's easy to understand that a higher amperage charger will charge your batteries faster. However, haphazardly throwing your batteries on the biggest charger available will damage them. You should match up your battery system with the charger requirements to find a good fit.
We recommend selecting a charger that's approximately 10% of the battery system's capacity. If your batteries are 100 Ah, a 10 amp charger would do well for your application. You can even go as high as 20 amp. This would charge the battery quickly enough without overheating it.
