How to replace rechargeable batteries:
When a rechargeable battery will no longer accept a charge, replace as follows:
- Unscrew bottom cap.
- Note how the old battery is oriented and shake out old battery.
- Insert replacement battery with the same orientation as the battery you removed (Typically, the flat / bottom side towards the cap).
- CAUTION: Insert battery fully until seated. For convertible handles, match polarity marking with those on instrument when inserting replacement battery.
- Screw bottom cap back into place. Ensure the plastic cap is securely attached to the bottom cap. If the insulator is missing or broken, contact Welch Allyn for a new bottom cap.
For models 71000, 71010, 71020, 71050, 70700, 70710, 70720, 70750 (non-convertible, rechargeable handles with self-contained charger), insure that plastic insulator cap is intact and securely seated on spring. If missing or damaged, install a new cap before using.
DO NOT INTERCHANGE BOTTOM CAPS BETWEEN DIFFERENT MODELS OF RECHARGEABLE HANDLES. USE OF INCORRECT BOTTOM CAP MAY DAMAGE THE BATTERY OR CAUSE THE HANDLE TO OVERHEAT. BURNS MAY OCCUR FROM AN OVERHEATED HANDLE.

Customer Reviews
This battery is for a fifty year old Welch Allyn diagnostic set. It has the correct contacts which some aftermarket replacements lack. It works fine. Current W-A equipment uses 3.5 volts so this battery is only for the older models.
Correct fit for a vintage (> 50 year old) WA Otoscope Handle 2.4V.
Our otoscope/ophthalmoscope is at least vintage and rarely needed. We were pleased to be able to purchase a replacement batter so that it was again functional. This replacement battery fits and the ophthalmoscope now works. I hope that it remains functional for a long time.
once I identified this as the correct battery for my old Welch Allyn ophthalmoscope/otoscope, I put it in charged it up and began using it. It’s an old model-only number on it is ppl poly red circular insulator at the base of the charging prongs. I purchased it in 1978, I believe.
nice people, sent it fast.
