- Made in the USA. Why it matters:
- Superior craftsmanship; rigorously tested; high-quality parts.
- Automated Battery Load Test: Set the load, press start, and the tester runs the full 15-second test for you.
- Starter and Alternator Testing: Check cranking draw, charging voltage, and failing diodes without guessing which part is bad.
- Included 1000A Amp Clamp: Measure starter draw and hunt parasitic drains, even in tight spots with its 10-foot lead.
- Separate Voltage Test Leads: Read voltage drop across cables and connections to find hidden resistance.
- Max/Min Recording: Capture peak current and voltage swings during a test, so one person can work alone.
- 500A Load Capacity: Tests 12V batteries up to 1000 CCA, covering most cars, trucks, and equipment.
- Reverse-Connection Protection: Electronics survive a wrong hookup, protecting your investment from costly mistakes.
- Rugged Clamps and Coated Board: Solid copper jaws replace easily, and the coated board resists moisture and dirt.
Product Description
Stop Replacing Parts on a Hunch
Are you tired of swapping batteries and alternators just to see if the problem goes away? The Associated 6044 battery electrical system tester shows you what is actually wrong, so you only replace what needs replacing.
It is built for busy shops, fleets, and serious DIYers who need fast, repeatable answers on 12V and 12/24V systems.
Skip the Messy Carbon Pile
Older load testers get hot, dirty, and need babysitting. The 6044 uses an electronic load instead, so there is nothing to clean or maintain.
Big LED readouts for volts and amps are easy to read at a glance. Start the test, then get on with your next task.
Find the Real Culprit
A weak start is not always a bad battery. Sometimes it is a corroded cable or a tired alternator. With the 6044 you can:
- Tell a failing battery from a bad connection
- Spot weak charging before it kills a good battery
- Track down slow drains that leave vehicles dead overnight
- Check each battery in a 12/24V setup, plus the jumper between them
Know What It Tests
The 6044 load tests 12V batteries and can test 24V charging and starting systems. For 24V setups, you test each 12V battery on its own.
A single 6V battery is too low for the tester to read under load, but two 6V batteries wired in series can be tested.
Built to Work as Hard as You Do
Made in the USA and backed by a one-year limited warranty, the 6044 is made for daily shop use.
Want to move it around? Add the optional 6038C cart to roll it across the shop floor. Need proof for customers? Add the 6041 printer for a written report of your test results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I test a 24V battery system with the 6044?
A: Yes, with one note. Most 24V systems use two 12V batteries, so you test each battery separately and check the connection between them. The 6044 can also test 24V alternators and starting systems, but it cannot load test a 24V battery as a single unit.
Can it test a single 6-volt battery?
A: No. One 6V battery cannot supply enough voltage under load for the digital circuitry to work. Two 6V batteries connected in series can be tested, and they count as one 12V battery with the same CCA as either individual battery.
What load should I enter for a battery test?
A: The standard test applies a load equal to half the battery's CCA rating for 15 seconds. If you don't know the CCA, check the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. The minimum setting is 70 amps, and never test a frozen battery.
How many tests can I run back to back?
A: Don't run the load more than twice in 5 minutes. If the unit gets too warm, it displays "HOT" and pauses testing until it cools. Letting it rest between tests extends its life.
Can I use the included amp clamp with a regular multimeter?
A: Yes. The included 6043 amp clamp plugs into a standard digital multimeter set to DC millivolts, where 1 mV equals 1 amp. Press its zero button before each use to remove leftover magnetism and keep readings accurate.
