Battery systems in modern cars have complex Vehicle Battery Systems that control and maintain the best charge and discharge rates, ensuring long service life and proper start/stop function. They observe the battery's voltage, current, temperature, and operating times. However, if the battery is replaced, these systems need to be reset or else they will continue to "assume" the old, worn battery is still installed.
The 12-0200 gives you access to all the functions the manufacturer scan tools have to perform, but in a fraction of the time. On average, the total time required by the technician to reset a system will be 30 seconds.
Registering (validating) the new battery is your car is important. If the old battery is replaced and the new battery is not registered, then the battery management system will continue to operate as though the original, degraded battery is still installed.
Benefits to registering your newly installed battery:
- Prevents the premature failing of the replacement battery.
- Prevents issues with the start/stop functionality.
- Prevents shutdown of non-essential electrical systems.
- Prevents overcharging of your new, healthy battery.
