What is the difference between "Portable" and "Standby" batteries?

• Home Standby units (8kW and up) usually require much larger batteries, similar to those found in vehicles (often BCI Group 26, 35, or 51). These systems have internal chargers that keep the battery topped off 24/7.

My model is listed as a "Cold Start" version. Does that require a special battery?

"Cold Start" models are engineered to provide extra cranking power in freezing temperatures. For these units, it is vital to select a battery with the recommended CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating. Using a battery with a lower rating may result in a "clicking" sound or a failed start when the temperature drops.

Why is my standby generator battery only lasting 2-3 years?

Because home standby batteries are constantly connected to an internal trickle charger, they are susceptible to "boiling off" or heat degradation over time. We recommend replacing your standby battery every 3 years as preventative maintenance to ensure it doesn't fail right when a storm hits.

Do these batteries come with the necessary hardware?

Most of our smaller portable generator batteries include new Nut & Bolt hardware. For larger standby units that use automotive-style terminals, you will typically reuse your generator's existing heavy-duty battery cables.
