Frequently Asked Questions about 8 Volt SLA Batteries
Do I have to use the same battery manufacturer?
No, you can use any brand of battery as long as the voltage and dimensions match your original battery. A difference in capacity (Ah) should not hurt your unit. But, check your system manual for minimum and maximum power requirements. This will help you ensure your system will perform optimally.
What charger should I use for my 8V SLA battery?
While you can find 8 volt battery chargers for sale, most likely your 8 volt batteries will be wired in series. When in series, the voltage of each battery is added together, and the capacity stays the same. For example, if you connect three of our 8 Volt, 140 Ah gel golf cart batteries (Item # GEL-8G-8VGC), the result will be a 24 volt, 140 Ah battery pack (or 48 volt, 140 Ah if you have six batteries).

Once they are connected in series, you can use a 24 volt or 48 volt charger to charge your group of 8 volt batteries. Generally, you'll want a charger that is ~10-20% of the capacity rating of the battery pack.
Using the above GEL-8G-8VGC connected in series, you will want a 24/48 volt (depending on your setup) charger with 14-28 amp output (140ah x 0.1 = 14 amp or 140ah x 0.2 = 28 amp).
