Product Description
Shorai's Lithium Iron batteries are the ultimate fusion of light weight and power technologies. The LFX21L6-BS12 battery weighs in at 3.03 pounds and offers 315 CCA. These batteries will require no change to your charging systems and are a drop-in replacement for your original battery (Included shims may be required for installation).
What makes Shorai batteries different? They contain Shorai-proprietary eXtreme-Rate Lithium Iron prismatic cells (chemistry LiFEPO4). They contain no poisonous lead, no dangerous acid, and do not create explosive gases during charge, as traditional Lead-Acid batteries do. Compared to traditional batteries, Shorai lithium batteries are extremely light, have much lower self-discharge rate, do not sulfate, and are environmentally friendly.
Can I use Lead-Acid battery chargers or charger/tenders?
Yes. HOWEVER, you may NOT use a charger/tender if it has an automatic desulfation mode, which cannot be turned off. We have confirmed with Deltran, makers of the Battery Tender brand, that their products do NOT have a desulfation mode, and are therefore OK for use with Shorai batteries.
Can Shorai LFX be mounted in any position?
Yes. There are no liquids in these batteries.
What's the difference between the "equivalent" and "Actual" amp hour capacity?
The manufacturer includes the "equivalent" (PbEq, "lead equivalent") rating to show a more apples-to-apples comparison between the lithium chemistry and the lead-acid battery that you're likely replacing.
The lead-acid capacity rating itself is based on a complete discharge at a low discharge rate. Under actual cranking conditions they will deliver considerably less than spec capacity. And because lead-acid batteries begin sulfating when only a small percentage of the capacity has been used, and their internal resistance rises as they are discharged, the actual capacity which can be used may be as little as 20% of the mfg. rating. Discharge in excess will not only damage the lead-acid battery, it may not allow proper starting as voltage sags.
For example, the Shorai LFX18 12V series have 6Ah cells internally. But, the cells are capable of 80% discharge without damage while still retaining more cranking power. As such, the usable capacity (or "reserve capacity") of an LFX18 12V battery is very close to 18Ah-rated lead acid batteries, while also providing superior cranking and huge weight reductions.
Cold Weather Performance Expectations
Down to about 20° Fahrenheit (-7°C) most users find that they can start normally on first crank. If your headlight comes on at key-ON, it is good for the batteries to flow some current before cranking in cold weather. The suggested headlight-on time before cranking depends on the temperature. If starting at 40°F/5°C, 30 seconds will help wake the battery and increase cranking performance. If at 0°F/-17°C, leave the lights on for 4~5 minutes before cranking. The result will be a better first crank, and longer battery life. If the engine fails to start on first crank, that first crank has warmed the battery, and the second attempt will be much stronger. Other accessories that can be turned on before cranking can also be used for this purpose, such as heated gear, radio, etc... Insuring that the battery is fully charged after storage also improves first-start performance in cold weather.
Customer Reviews
Fast delivery and exactly what was ordered. Works great!
I purchased this battery to replace my lead acid battery in my 2003 BMW K1200RS motorcycle. It is much smaller and lighter than the stock lead acid battery. Packaged with the battery in the box is dense foam to custom fit this battery to the stock battery box.
Great package!
I wasn't so sure about this battery but finally decided to buy it. I am glad I did for one thing it is so much lighter than my old battery. My old battery I had to use both hands to put it in my motorcycle. With this battery I only had to use one hand because it is so light and easy to adjust. The other thing is it turns over my motorcycle much quicker. As of now I have no problems. The only thing I can say against it is you have to have the Shorai battery charger in order to charge it. Just can't use any battery tender for this battery. I bought the Shorai battery charger along with this Shorai Battery and I have not been disapointed in doing so.
Love it a little shorter but was able to make it work. you should advertise fitment for my Harley Night Rod Special. This is my 3rd battery and sure will buy another one from you guys if needed.
Shipment was very quick and the battery is a good fit on my '07 HD Sportster 1200C. After a week of use, the battery failed to start. I bought the charger and it showed that it was fully discharged. As temps dropped into the 20's and 30's, the starting was very labored and took a long time to get going.
I will say that my previous lead-acid batteries performed much worse than this battery (never
so far seems like a great battery. The delivery time was very quick. No complaints
