Tech Tip: Special Installations
Mounting flexibility is one of the Odyssey battery's strongest features. It may be installed in just about any orientation (the only exception being inverted) without sacrificing any of its world-class performance attributes. Have no fear about acid spillage-- the battery recycles internal gas during operation/charging and the valve regulated design eliminates the need for an acid vent tube. All in all, this offers two awesome benefits:
Great replacement for stock battery on my 2015 BMW K1600 GTL. I originally purchased this battery in 2019, but I had an un-diagnosed current drain on my bike that ran the battery down to 3V & I hwas not able to recover the battery via Odyssey's recovery instructions so I bought a replacement. The current drain was identified as an accessory tap directly on the battery running my bluetooth adapter from the onboard audio system. This circuit is now on a switch!
Just what I ordered!
This is my second PC680. First purchased this type battery about 6 years ago for my experimental RV-7A aircraft equipped with an 0-360 lycoming 180 HP aircraft engine. Turns engine over well. Highly recommend. Probably would have lasted longer but I accidentally left my master switch on a few times early on during my test flying hours and drained it down. Still, I followed the directions to “resurrect” it and it worked fine for years after until recently with sub freezing temps at my hangar.
As anyone who owns a BMW R1100RT knows, it's not a fun experience changing out the battery. Oh, once the get the 19 screws out of the side panel out and remove it, it's not bad! I wasn't sure how the flat top connections were going to work. I found out that I wished someone would have mentioned that I would need the L lag connectors. Well. I wasn't going to wait several more days for connectors so I made my own. The shipping was fast, the battery fit where it needed to go, the motorcycle started right up, no more ABS light flashing. The only question to be answered is how long will it last? I expect longer than 2 years and over 5. Then I will make it 5 stars
Fits and works as advertised.
I really like these Odyssey gel cell batteries. I've had 4 of them. They're clean and reliable, you don't have the corrosion as with lead acid batteries.
In checking my battery before a lengthy ride a few weeks ago, I noted that it was a 7 year old Odyssey Battery. The battery was still working without issues. I have never gotten over 3-4 years out of batteries in the past. Rather than take a chance of battery failure while traveling, I chose to replace the battery with a new PC680 which was the same one that had been in the bike. Needless to say, I have been very pleased with the quality and length of time this battery has lasted.
